Defeat for Belgium, Victory for Flanders

06/14/2010 :: Vlaams Belang congratulates the N-VA on their landslide victory in yesterday’s federal elections. Our party cannot be satisfied with the result. However, we have not been swept away at all. Vlaams Belang still remains an important factor in today’s Flemish politics. We have sown, and others have reaped. This is a defeat for Belgium and a victory for Flanders.

The political gap between Flanders and Wallonia has widened even more. With 37,6 percent (+8,1), the Parti Socialiste has won the elections again in Wallonia, while Ecolo (the Walloon Green party) scored 12,3 per cent. In Flanders, left wing parties have a combined score of merely 21 per cent. In Wallonia, half of the population votes left wing, and the difference with Flanders becomes even more clear when we take the 14,6 per cent of the progressive cdH party into account.

Recent elections have made it clear again: Belgium consists of two different countries.
