Flanders Supports Wilders

01/22/2010 :: On 20 January, the Vlaams Belang demonstrated in front of the Dutch embassy in Brussels to protest the trial against the Dutch politician and MP Geert Wilders. Mr. Wilders has been brought to court on the charge of “insulting the Muslim population by insulting Islam, hatemongering against Muslims and inciting discrimination against Muslims, Moroccans and other non-Western immigrants.”

The VB wanted to show its solidarity with and support for  Mr. Wilders. A delegation of VB MPs handed over a letter addressed to the Dutch government in which they voiced their indignation about the trial against Geert Wilders.

Popular

Mr. Wilders has never discriminated or “insulted” any Muslims. He has only expressed legitimate concern about the ideology of Islam. Because he is the only Dutch politician to do so, he has become immensely popular. The polls indicate that his Freedom Party will become the biggest party in the Netherlands at the next general elections.

Filip Dewinter
, the VB group leader in the Flemish Parliament, said: “The trial against Geert Wilders is a political murder attempt. The trial is very similar to the trial in Belgium that led to the conviction and the dissolution of Vlaams Blok. A successful political party is being criminalized and silenced.”

Expressing an opinion can never be a criminal offence. The trial against Geert Wilders not only endangers freedom of speech in the Netherlands. It also gives radical Islam the ability to undermine Western society. All over Europe, Islamic organizations are trying to silence the critics of Islamization.
